Why this matters on day one

The GPC framework exists so that professional capability is assessed continuously rather than assumed. Domain 1 is the one that appears in every ARCP: it is not tested by an exam but by a pattern of behaviour visible across a year of supervised events.

What the domain requires

1. 1What it requires. Behave in accordance with ethical and legal requirements, demonstrate respect and probity, practise with integrity, and take responsibility for your own actions and their consequences.
2. 2How it is judged. Across supervised learning events, multi-source feedback and reflections — a trend, not a single episode. One difficult day is not a concern; a pattern is.

What evidencing it looks like

• Multi-source feedback across the whole team.
• Reflections that examine your own contribution rather than the circumstances.
• Educational supervisor reports across a placement.

What falls short

• Treating professional development as portfolio-filling in the final fortnight.
• Reflections written to look good rather than to be useful — supervisors can tell, and it counts against you.
